"Default Multitudes" is an art installation that uses AI technology to explore themes of authenticity, identity, and perception. The project features AI-generated portraits based on textual prompts, printed and displayed in a grid. An interview with the AI as the „curator“ of the portraits explores the selection process and taps into themes like biases and reflexivity . This exhibit challenges viewers to discern and reflect on the nature of reality and representation.

„Default Multitudes“ is an art installation designed to engage audiences at the intersection of art, technology, and society. The project leverages artificial intelligence to create a series of portraits that reflect the festival’s theme of Fact, Fake, Fiction. Through this installation, we aim to provoke thought and discussion about the fluid boundaries between reality and fabrication, about biases and questions of representation, as well as the creation and perpetuation of stereotypical images in the digital age.

At the heart of the installation are 270 portraits generated by an AI, each based on a simple, descriptive textual prompt. These prompts are crafted to evoke a wide range of personas, encompassing elements of truth, deception, and imagination. The resulting images serve as a visual exploration of how AI interprets and represents human identity, raising questions about the nature of authenticity and the role of technology in shaping our perceptions.

Objectives:

• Investigate the capabilities and limitations of AI in creating and interpreting human traits.

• Stimulate critical thinking about authenticity, identity, and representation in the digital era.

• Foster dialogue about the societal implications of AI technology and its influence on our understanding of reality.
