How many objects does a person own? How did they become theirs? And what will they get next? This installation explores the quantity of things we possess, how they relate to our identity, and how AI-powered generative recommendation systems influence what we buy next.
The installation features a selection of everyday objects and their digital suggested counterparts hovering as holograms above them. The holographic objects were collected through a bot that gathered everything recommender systems suggested to buy based on the physical thing displayed. The projection is controlled by an alogrithm designed to chooses at random what to show, completely releasing the agency of the individual to decide.
By activating reflective methodologies and working with recommender algorithms, this installations seeks to reveal more about society through everyday objects and question where an individual’s agency lies in getting the next thing.
